Introduction to an animal lover

Hi! My name is Hannah Rutherford and I am a sophomore here at OU. I am from The Woodlands, TX – which is just North of Houston. I absolutely love OU and couldn’t imagine being at any other university. I just switched my major from pre-nursing to Human Relations. I quickly realized that nursing wasn’t for me and was able to switch! Once I graduate with an HR degree, I hope to get my masters and become a Licensed Professional Counselor and somehow incorporate therapy animals to further help people!

Speaking of animals, I am an extreme animal lover. I have two dogs and two cats at home. My two dogs are Shih Tzus and they are named Shamu and Bella. My two cats are named Maverick and Goose. They are the sweetest animals and I miss them a lot when I am here in Oklahoma. Once I am out of college I dream of having a Golden Retriever, a corgi, and a couple cats! I just think they are the best!

I often find myself watching Netflix in my spare time. My favorite shows include Grey’s Anatomy, The Walking Dead, American Horror Story, and The Office. I would call myself a Netflix addict because I watch way too much! I always say I am going to watch less Netflix… but that probably won’t happen!

Over the break I mostly stayed home and was a couch potato (which was great and I loved every second of it). I was fortunate enough to be able to go to the Sugar Bowl and watch the Sooners beat Auburn! It was such a fun game and I had a really great trip with all of my friends.

Music has always been a big part of my life. I have been playing percussion for 10 years now! I started when I was in 5th grade and have continued through out high school and college. I just completed my second year in the Pride and it has been a lot of fun! I have met some of my best friends through band and we all share the same passion which is pretty cool!

I am looking forward to this semester and to creating my blog!

I hope you all have a great day!

here is a throwback video I just randomly thought of

  1. Hannah! Omg! Your blog made me so excited. We are so alike that is was almost scary. First, it is so amazing that you switched to the HR major! I switched to the HR major when I was a sophomore. My major used to be biology Pre-med. Also, some news, I got into grad school today here at OU for a masters in Mental Health Counseling to become a licensed professional counselor. I LOVE THE OFFICE! That has been my show for a few months now. I love Jim and Pam, they are so cute. I am really glad you enjoyed your time at home. It sounds like you had a good break. I also played percussion for about three years. I am so impressed that you did it for 10. Very impressive that you were part of pride as well. I know that must have been challenging at times but it’s great that you have made so many friends! I cannot wait to get to know you more this semester. If you ever need anything please feel free to reach out to me!

  2. Hannah—

First off, I love your cats’ names (and the picture of them trying to crowd into the dog’s bed, haha). I’m actually more of an Iceman fan, but I think part of that stems from my dislike of Tom Cruise/fondness of Val Kilmer, and Goose is great regardless. The idea of incorporating animals into therapy sessions is a really cool one—it sounds like the perfect marriage of your interests. Looking forward to reading some of your stories this semester!

  3. Oh, how great that you are looking forward to a career with therapy animals, Hannah! That sounds wonderful! I knew someone in Arizona who did work with rescue dogs in a prison, where the prisoners worked with the dogs and it was all part of a combined rescue-and-therapy project. It was so inspiring!

And how great also that you are in the Pride. The percussion tradition in India is very strong, and I will be sharing some tabla music videos in the class announcements. Have you heard of Zakir Hussain? He is one of the giants, and just this weekend I found a tribute video his daughter made so I will share it here: maybe you will like it too; I really enjoyed it! 4. Hannah,

I think it is so amazing that you are taking your love for animals and are turning it into a future career for yourself. The pictures you put up of your cats and dogs are so precious. I also absolutely love Netflix (and Grey's Anatomy). The Sugar Bowl was a GREAT game and it is so cool that you got to go down to New Orleans and watch it. In fact, when I watch OU football games on TV, one of my most favorite parts is being able to hear the Pride through the TV. I'm excited to read your stories this semester!

  5. Hi Hannah!
Your furkids are adorable! Getting a golden retriever will be quite a size difference! My son wants a corgi also, but we have two huskies so that is one he has to wait until he is out on his own. I think it is cool that you want to incorporate therapy animals into your profession, I thoroughly believe in their help. Congrats on being in the Pride, I am amazed at all the dedication it takes for those in fine arts. I hope that my daughter is able to stick with her clarinet and do the same when she is your age.

  6. Hannah,

Your animals are adorable. I love dogs but my family stuck me with cats! Although we have a bit of a difference when it comes to what we watch, I also love Netflix. There's nothing better than vegging out for hours and watching a complete season of something right? It is also awesome to meet another musician. I did not list it in my introduction, but along with trumpet I play the drums (trap set). I used to play for a couple years for my jazz band in high school! Nice to read about you and have a great semester.

  7. Hello! It is nice to meet another fellow Hannah. I noticed we have more in common than just our name. I love Netflix and Grey's Anatomy as well, but what other college student doesn't love some aspect of Netflix. I spend most of my time on Netlfix, as I said before, watchign Grey's Anatomy, Vampire Diaries, or The Originals. I also like your desire to become a counselor and your goal to utilize therapy animals. As an RA and University employed student, these are the type of professions and connections we need for students who are stressed living in the residence halls. Currently, we orchestrate programs that have to do with bringing therapy animals in for students who need support in whatever aspect in their lives that are lacking.

  8. Hannah, that's awesome that you are such a big animal lover! I only have one cat at home, but she's pretty awesome. When I move out I want to get a golden retriever too and maybe one cat. I can only handle so much crazy haha. Those are all my favorite shows too! I'm current on Grey's, I've lost track of Walking Dead (I sorta got bored with it at some point), I've watched all of AHS except like one season, and I've watched The Office a few times through. Thanks for sharing!

  9. Nice to meet you Hannah! Your animals are so cute and it is so cool that your dog and cats get along well enough to share a bed! I know the feeling of missing your animals while you're in college. I have two dogs at home as well- though I get to see mine almost every weekend. Netflix is awesome, maybe you will use some of your favorite shows to influence your writing this semester!! I look forward to reading your blog!

  10. Hey Hannah,

I love what you decided to do instead of nursing. I love animals and anyone who wants to help them is someone I can stand behind! Also I really like the office! Dwight and Jim's friendship is what goals are made of! Also of course Jim and Pam are just a dream! Your animals are super cute. I have two cats and a young pup as well-- she is a handful. I hope to help animals someday in my future in someway. I cant stand seeing animals being abuse.

  11. Hi Hannah, I admire your dedication to the University of Oklahoma Marching Band. I know that requires a strong commitment. I see you have changed majors from nursing to therapist. That switch is a big switch. My wife is a nurse practioner and it has a different type of personality in mind than does an LPC or a psychologist. I changed up my major from therapist to construction manager if that gives you any indication of how much things can change. I hope you find the major that best suits you.

  12. Hi Hannah, I really like the names of your dogs and cats...very unique and well balanced haha. It's cool that you were able to switch majors into something more fitting for you. I also had to switch majors...sometimes we just jump into something that we aren't really into, so it's cool that we are able to change our minds. I am also a big Netflix enthusiast. I love The Office and The Walking Dead. I can watch those shows for hours and hours!

  13. Hannah, what an interesting introduction post! I used to live in Kemah, TX for about a year, so I am quite familiar with the Woodlands. What made you decide to join the OU community? I absolutely love the idea that you want to incorporate animals with therapy - pets are the best therapy you can get! (In my opinion). What is your favorite movie / series that you are currently watching on Netflix? Good luck with everything!

  14. Hi Hannah, it is nice to meet you! I love animals too! I have two cats right now and they are the best. I miss my dogs back at home. I also binge watch Netflix too much. Ever since Friends was added I never stop watching. I also really like the idea of pet therapy. Animals are very relaxing to be around. Good luck with everything you want to do.

  15. Hi Hannah, nice to meet you! I think it’s really cool that you want to incorporate your love of animals into your work. I can definitely relate to your Netflix addiction too – sometimes it’s hard to say no to that little ‘play next episode’ button in the corner, isn’t it? I miss my pets when I come back up to school too. Personally, I love big dog breeds, but corgis are too cute! I look forward to reading your stories!

  16. Firstly, I'd like to say that your dogs and cats are super cute. I wish I could have a pet; however, I'm an RA in the halls and I can't have animals. Although I can't have animal, there are students who live here who have therapy and emotional support animals. I noticed that you wanted to incorporate that into your occupation after graduation, which I believe can be very nice for field. I also love Grey's Anatomy.

  17. Hey Hannah, nice to meet you! I love the title to your introduction! I knew we would automatically be friends because I am a huge animal lover too! I love Shih Tzuhs! I had one named Sophie when I was younger and she was my little girl! Also, I think your cat’s names are hilarious! My aunt and uncle have two cats named Maverick and Goose as well!

  18. Hi, Hannah! It’s nice to meet another sophomore in this class! I can definitely relate on your major switch because I was bio pre-med wanting to be a pediatrician, but I realized I don’t want to do that anymore so I’m now a psych major wanting to be Licensed Professional Counselor too! But I’m looking more into mental health counseling for kiddos or teenagers. But I think it’s great that you’re trying to incorporate animals into your profession, and I bet you’ll do great! (Also, I absolutely love your cats and dogs.)

  19. Hi Hannah! Its nice to meet you! First off, let me say how much I love that you named your pets Maverick and Goose! I am a huge fan of Top Gun! I think its really great that you want to incorporate therapy animals into your future counseling position. Just like incorporating animals into your position, I hope you will incorporate your pets into your stories! Good luck finishing out your year and I look forward to reading your stories!

  20. Hi Hannah,
Nice to meet you! I have been trying to visit the blogs of people I haven't met yet before the semester comes to and end. Your dogs are absolutely adorable, and your plans to get a Golden Retriever and Corgi is so cute! I have a German Shepherd and he is absolutely adorable. I can also relate to your addiction with Netflix. My sister and I commit to watching one episode of One Tree Hill every night, and we are almost done with all 9 seasons! Nice to have met you. Good luck with finals!
