Google Timer Tech Tip

I enjoyed using the Google Timer. It allowed me to fully submerge myself into the reading that I am doing. I often find myself reading to get the material read, rather than doing it to fully understand. Having the timer allowed me to read the material then realize I read it way too fast, so I would go back and read it once more.

The timer is also useful in other classes or just when you are hanging around. I have to take study breaks about every hour, but sometimes I get caught up in the social media post I am reading. Having the timer will allow me to see that I might be using too much time taking breaks.

I definitely plan on using the Google Timer in the future for all of my assignments!

Week 8 Growth Mindset

I think that the Growth Mindset is a very important part of learning and education. Last semester one of my teachers stressed the idea of a growth mindset rather than a fixed one. I found this particularly interesting. I learned a lot about myself. I learned that it always possible to grow and just because you fail, does not mean that you should stop trying. The key is to learn from your mistakes and maybe approach the situation differently and you will grow.

I often find myself procrastinating on assignments. This lowers my growth mindset in the sense that I am not achieving my fullest potential. When I wait until the last minute, I cram the work in and may not learn as much from the assignments. This is damaging my education and mindset. Instead, I should work in advance and truly learn from the assignments.

Another thing I often find myself focusing on is that I want things done correctly the first time. If it is not, then I get upset and think I can not do the assignment. This is not true. Pushing yourself to be the best student you can is important, but it is also important to learn from your mistakes and go from there.

I really enjoy the way that this class is set up. It allows me to make my own schedule and grow from my experiences from week to week.

Week 8 Reflections

So far I feel as if my reading notes for each week are pretty strong. They describe what is going on then go into how I can use that in my own story. Usually I use these ideas myself for the story due each week. A way to improve my reading notes would be to write more. I find myself writing 300 words then writing up the blog, but if I put more time into it I can have more ideas. This would then allow me to have more options for writing a story. Options are a big part for me. If I feel forced to write a certain way then I don't feel connected to it. If I have different types of stories I can write, then I can find the best one for me and go from there.

Everyone is a writer

I have mentioned this is some story planning posts, but I am trying to write different styles of stories. I often find myself writing love stories. I want to explore the different styles that are offered. This will allow me to grow as a writer and gain more experience. I am very happy with where my story book is at the moment. I think that my introduction is fun and interesting and I hope that my readers feel the same way. I am looking forward to writing my stories and see the finished product at the end of the semester!

One of my favorite parts of each weeks assignments is to read other peoples stories. I like to see how creative people can get. We all read the same thing each week, so it is really interesting to see how they interpreted it and how they think about the content that was assigned. Reading these stories also allows me to see what to avoid. I try to stay away from too much dialogue. I also try to stay away from really long paragraphs. When I read stories that have big chunks for paragraphs, it gets tiring and draining for the reader. Either add some pictures to divide it up or make smaller paragraphs! This class is able to allow the readers and writer to grow every week, and I really admire that!
