Week 5 Story Planning: Smell Like a Rose

The stories from this week were very interesting. There were a lot of different types of stories that could be written based off of the Mahabharata.

A big part of the story was revolved around a woman named Satyavati. She was the twin that was not taken due to her smelling like fish. She was also rejected at times due to her fishy smell. I find this very interesting. From this idea, I could write a story the opposite of this where she smells wonder and she has to turn people away. This would give a twist to the original story and change the outcome of the character.
Satyavati: The protagonist of the story that smells of wonderful flowers at all times. This attracts multiple people and she must turn them away. She finally finds a man and once she is with him, her smell is diminished. This shows that there will not be another character trying to get in the way and ruining the relationship.

King: Finds Satyavati beautiful in many ways. He is particularly attracted to her smell. He then founds out that he loves her and wants her smell to go away so she will be only hers.

A down side to this idea is that I have written stories about love before. I want to write about something a little different and get more experience writing a different genre.

Another story could be modern day and the character does not smell of fish but it could be another insecurity that affects the character throughout the entire story. This would allow character development and the ability to see what the character is feeling and thinking.

Another story idea would be characters having to get into a disguise in order to obtain information or get from point A to point B without being noticed. They must fit in in order to get the objective finished. This type of story would be action-like and would have suspense and drama. I researched masks and looked under the specific area regarding India. It is interesting reading what masks are a part of in the Indian culture.

  1. Hannah, creative planning! The Mahabhrata has been filled with a lot of different stories for sure. I like that you are thinking about taking a character totally out of the original and basically creating a new life for her. I have not taken and only used one character out of the original, I've tried to incorporate everyone so you've definitely given me some ideas! It's great that you've given yourself several ideas to write about for next week.

  2. Wow, I really like the idea you came up. Flip flopping the plot from her becoming unwanted to the most wanted lady around is very cool. I think it would give you a lot to write about. Do not worry about writing too many love stories! You can never have enough of those. As long as they end with a happy ending!
